RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta holds immense strategic potential as a central showcase for introducing authentic regional culinary diversity from across Indonesia to national audiences and international tourists, according to shopping center management representatives.

Speaking at the opening of the Kampung Legendaris culinary festival in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Mal Ciputra Jakarta General Manager Ferry Irianto highlighted that the capital city serves as a natural meeting point for regional cuisines. Hosting curated culinary festivals, particularly those bringing local MSME vendors directly from their home provinces, not only expands market reach for regional entrepreneurs but also encourages domestic tourism to food origins while introducing traditional flavors to younger generations.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Ministry of Tourism, through its Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet (WIG) program, to develop gastronomy as a core driver of national tourism.

Private sector managers and tourism advocates emphasized that establishing dedicated promotional platforms in the capital is essential for preserving indigenous culinary heritage and boosting the national brand of Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Ferry Irianto underscored Jakarta's role as a unifying platform for regional culture. "Jakarta is famous as a showcase. Therefore, a showcase for all regions can be summarized in Jakarta, we hope that by providing a showcase or space for these archipelago flavors, everything can be introduced more broadly to our society as well as tourists from abroad," Ferry said in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that convincing regional MSME owners to expand their exposure beyond their home territories remains a crucial step for national recognition.

"They sometimes feel there is no longer a need to seek fortune in other places, but we convince them that if it is not promoted outside the region, their products might be less known nationally, we must introduce it to the next generation so that it does not disappear," Ferry explained. ***
