RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) recorded growth in transactions in the cryptocurrency market in August 2026. This increase in activity reinforces the prospects for expansion in the digital asset business amid strengthened regulations and market infrastructure.
Executive Director of Supervision for Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets, and Cryptocurrencies at the OJK, Adi Budiarso, said that the number of cryptocurrency consumer accounts reached 23.21 million in August 2026, up 1.23 percent month-to-month (mtm). The value of crypto transactions also surged 12.87 percent (month-over-month) to IDR 23.16 trillion (approximately USD 1.29 billion).
“The transaction value of digital financial asset derivatives was recorded at IDR 4.56 trillion, an increase of 33.76 percent (mtm),” Adi said during a press conference on the Assessment of the Financial Services Sector and OJK Policies following the September 2026 Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting (RDKB) in Jakarta on Monday, October 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The OJK considers that the industry’s development should not rely solely on transaction volume. A healthy, secure, and ethical ecosystem that provides added value to the economy is the focus of efforts to strengthen the industry.
The regulatory framework has been strengthened through Law No. 4/2023 (UU P2SK). “Therefore, the OJK continues to strengthen the implementation of this regulation, enhance market infrastructure, and continue to drive innovation through the implementation of a regulatory sandbox,” said Adi.
The next phase will open up new business opportunities through real-asset tokenization, rupiah-pegged stablecoins, digital asset custody, and crypto fund management. The OJK aims to finalize the relevant OJK Regulations (POJK) for these sectors by 2026 or early 2027.
Adi stated that in the future, the development of Indonesia’s crypto market will be directed not only toward making crypto assets more attractive as investment instruments. However, it will also aim to make Indonesia’s digital asset ecosystem more trustworthy.
“In addition, we continue to promote innovation and competitiveness, including strengthening sovereignty in practice and in the crypto asset and digital financial asset ecosystem in Indonesia,” said Adi. ***
