RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Ahead of the mandatory halal certification policy taking effect in October 2026, the Indonesian government is accelerating nationwide SME support to expand the global market reach of local manufacturing products. This strategic push aims to reinforce consumer protection and compliance across food, beverage, and raw material sectors.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that strengthening the halal industry goes beyond regulatory compliance to drive added value. He noted that robust certification frameworks serve as a vital instrument to boost international competitiveness.

"Through halal certification facilitation, we are driving industries to not only obtain certificates but also consistently implement halal product assurance principles," the minister stated on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

According to Agus, building consumer trust through certified domestic products is crucial amid rising global and domestic demand. Furthermore, this momentum creates an opening for local businesses to capture wider market segments.

"Halal certification is not merely the fulfillment of an obligation, but also adds value to products. With halal guarantees, consumer confidence grows stronger and the opportunities for our industrial products to reach broader markets open wider," he added.

To realize this vision, the Ministry of Industry continues to fast-track halal certification specifically targeting micro, small, and medium enterprises. These efforts are channeled through dedicated technical units specializing in industrial standards.

As a concrete example, the Jakarta Industrial Standards and Services Center facilitated halal certification for 31 micro and small businesses across the Greater Jakarta area. These regional initiatives ensure grassroots producers remain integrated into the broader national supply chain.
