RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo - Indonesia continues to strengthen tourism promotion in the Japanese market. One of the efforts is Indonesia’s participation in Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ), held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, from September 24 to 27, 2026.

At the event, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo, presented the Indonesia Pavilion to promote various Indonesian tourism destinations and products, while also facilitating connections between Indonesian tourism industry players and their Japanese counterparts.

The Indonesia Pavilion was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini P. Sjahrir and Secretary of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism Bayu Aji. The ceremony was witnessed by tourism industry representatives participating in the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion.

Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Nurmala Kartini P. Sjahrir, said Indonesia’s participation in Tourism Expo Japan was not only aimed at promoting tourism products. The Indonesia Pavilion also serves as a platform to strengthen business interaction and cooperation between tourism industry players from Indonesia and Japan.

“Indonesia has an extraordinary wealth of destinations. Our shared task is to transform this wealth into quality tourism experiences that provide tangible benefits for the Indonesian people,” Ambassador Kartini said, as quoted from an official statement on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

She also called on all stakeholders to continue strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian tourism through broader promotion. “Together, let us advance Indonesian tourism to become stronger, higher quality and increasingly competitive. Happy promoting and bringing Wonderful Indonesia to the world,” she added.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism Bayu Aji said Indonesia’s participation in Tourism Expo Japan provided an opportunity to expand tourism cooperation with the Japanese market.

“Let us use Tourism EXPO Japan to build new partnerships, new connectivity, new products, and new markets for Indonesian tourism. Let us support Indonesian tourism to become higher quality and more sustainable,” he said.

Eight Indonesian tourism industry players participated in the Indonesia Pavilion. They were Adventure Indonesia, DMC White Tiger Bali, Garuda Indonesia Japan Office, Kuno Villas, Menjaga Bay Resort, The Mulia Resort & Villas, Wendy Asia Utama, and Yoga Barn.

Indonesia’s tourism promotion in Japan comes amid continued growth in international tourist arrivals. Throughout 2025, Indonesia recorded more than 15 million international tourist arrivals, an increase of 10.8 percent compared with 2024.

Meanwhile, as of July 2026, the number of international tourist arrivals to Indonesia had reached nearly 9 million, representing growth of 5.23 percent compared with the same period the previous year.

The Japanese tourist market has also shown positive growth. In 2025, more than 380,000 Japanese tourists visited Indonesia, with an average length of stay of nearly eight days. This represented an increase of around 12 percent compared with the previous year.
