RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Agency, Muhammad Qodari, said Chinese direct investment in Indonesia reached USD 3.9 billion during the first half of 2026, placing China among the countries with the largest investments in Indonesia.

Qodari said the data was presented by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani. China ranks third among Indonesia’s largest investors, following Singapore and Hong Kong.

“According to Minister Rosan, the majority of investment coming from Hong Kong also originates from Chinese companies,” Qodari said while delivering a keynote speech at the 2026 Indonesia–China Digital City & Security Technology Application Forum in Jakarta on Monday, September 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the investment is primarily related to the development of Indonesia’s mineral downstreaming sector.

According to Qodari, the scale of Chinese investment reflects the bilateral economic relationship and needs continued development. “The Indonesian government is very open to cooperation that creates jobs for the Indonesian people and revitalizes local businesses,” he said.

Qodari also emphasized the importance of communicating incoming investments thoroughly to the public. He said the public needs to understand the benefits of these investments for employment, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and regional supply chains. (Gusti Panji)
