RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s halal industry is entering a phase of market expansion, with the Ministry of Industry encouraging businesses to strengthen their competitiveness to meet both domestic and global demand.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said developing the halal industry requires an integrated ecosystem. “Halal Indo 2026 serves as a key opportunity to align the strengths of the domestic industry with broader market opportunities,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, September 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to Minister Agus, strengthening the halal industry involves building business operators' capacity, facilitating certification, promoting products, and expanding market access.

Indonesia is considered to have strong potential to become one of the world’s halal industry hubs, supported by a productive, innovative, and competitive industrial base.

The Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) 2026 will take place on September 24–27 in Tangerang, Banten. The event will cover 12,740 square meters, target more than 30,000 visitors, and feature participation from over 400 businesses.

Sectors highlighted at the expo include food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, traditional medicine, cosmetics, lifestyle products, ceramics, tableware, textiles, consumer goods, and halal industrial zones. “The scale of this year’s Halal Indo event demonstrates both the immense opportunities and the high level of interest in the halal industry,” Minister Agus said.

The Ministry’s Secretary General, Eko Cahyanto, said the Ministry’s pavilion spans 1,818 square meters and includes a main booth, 174 standard booths, the Ministry’s Halal Certification Agency (LPH), public service facilities, and a showcase of winners of the Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA).

Eko noted strong enthusiasm from industry players. Since booth registration opened on May 25, 2026, 236 businesses have registered. “Through a curation process conducted jointly with sector-specific advisory units, 174 participants or co-exhibitors were selected, comprising 20 large industries and 154 small and medium-sized enterprises,” he said.

The Ministry of Industry is also collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade to identify potential buyers through Indonesian diplomatic missions abroad. Business meetings form part of the strategy to expand export networks for halal products.

The Ministry is also strengthening the ecosystem through IHYA 2026, which attracted 1,091 participants. Of these, 374 passed verification and 97 advanced to the judging stage.

The Ministry also brought together products certified under the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) standard and halal-certified products through the 2026 Domestic Featured Products showcase.

“Synergy between fulfilling TKDN requirements and halal certification is crucial for strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industrial products,” Eko said. ***
