TVS Plans to Develop Electric and Ethanol-Based Bikes in Meeting with Prabowo

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, received representatives of Indian automotive company TVS at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, September 17, 2026. The meeting discussed TVS’s plans to expand its investments in Indonesia, including factory expansion and the development of electric- and ethanol-powered vehicles.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani accompanied Prabowo during the meeting. He said TVS had already invested in Indonesia to manufacture various types of vehicles, including motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheeled vehicles.

"I was accompanying the president as he received guests from TVS, an Indian company that has already invested here in motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheeled vehicles. The company wants to expand its manufacturing facilities, and it is looking beyond electric vehicles to also begin adopting ethanol-based fuel," Rosan told reporters after the meeting.

According to him, TVS representatives outlined the company’s development plans and explored potential opportunities for further cooperation in Indonesia. The company’s top executives, including its CEO, met with Prabowo in person.

"Their plans and potential areas of cooperation were discussed. The company’s principal and CEO were both present, so this was essentially a courtesy visit to the President," Rosan said, as quoted from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat.

One of the development priorities discussed was producing two-wheeled vehicles using a wider range of technologies. In addition to electric vehicles, TVS also plans to develop ethanol-powered motorcycles as part of its investment expansion in Indonesia.

He explained that the plans would also involve relevant government teams to support the development of electric-vehicle and ethanol-based vehicle technologies. The Presidential Secretariat said the meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to attracting quality investment, strengthening Indonesia’s automotive industry, and accelerating the development of more environmentally friendly vehicles in the country.

"The cooperation will focus on the development of electric motorcycles and ethanol-powered motorcycles. The relevant team from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology will also be involved in developing these electric and ethanol-based technologies," Rosan said.
