Indonesia Investigates Surge of Galvanized Steel Imports from China

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia has officially taken a firm step to protect its domestic steel industry by initiating an antidumping investigation into galvanized steel products from China. This international trade law measure was taken after relevant authorities discovered a significant surge in import volume that has pressured the domestic producer market.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), Frida Adiati, stated that the investigation into Chinese galvanized steel is a follow-up to petitions submitted by two companies. These two companies are PT Tata Metal Lestari and PT Arcelormittal Nippon Steel Indonesia, representing the domestic industry.

“Based on the assessment of the adequacy and accuracy of initial evidence, KADI found an increase in galvanized steel imports from China that has caused injury to the domestic industry,” Frida said, as quoted from a written press release by the Ministry of Trade on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

She also conveyed that from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2025, Indonesia's total global imports of galvanized steel were recorded at 2,562,407 metric tons. This surge was dominated by Chinese products, which reached 2,075,801 metric tons, or equivalent to 81 percent of the total overall imports.

In addition, Frida added that the antidumping investigation will be conducted over a maximum period of 12 months and can be extended to 18 months if necessary. This official investigation process refers to Government Regulation Number 34 of 2011 concerning Antidumping Measures, Countervailing Measures, and Trade Safeguard Measures.

“KADI has notified interested parties about the initiation of the investigation, including the domestic industry, importers, and known Chinese galvanized steel exporters and producers. This information has also been conveyed to the representatives of the Chinese Government in Indonesia and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in China,” she said.
