RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government is strengthening strategic trade governance through the development of Strategic Trade Management to ensure the security of global goods and technology flows. This strategic step was conveyed by Deputy for Coordination of Commerce and Digital Economy at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Ali Murtopo Simbolon in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The development of this system is designed to support national economic growth while securing the supply chain of high-tech industries. This policy also aligns with the government's ambitious target to boost economic growth up to 6 percent next year.

"We must seek new sectors to raise economic growth to 6% next year. And by 2028, we must also continue seeking new sectors to achieve the 7-8% economic growth target. These new sectors certainly come from realization, digital transformation, innovation, and the development of high-tech-based industries. In carrying out this agenda, Indonesia is always open to cooperation with various partners," Ali stated.

This governance reinforcement responds to the surge in Indonesia's semiconductor and electronic integrated circuit exports, which reached US$4.1 billion in 2025. This significant increase urges the government to ensure that the use of dual-use technology continues to comply with international security standards.

"The goal is to ensure that legitimate trade can continue, while at the same time diversion and misuse risks can be properly managed. Therefore, for Indonesia, we see this as important because Indonesia is driving its economic transformation toward industries with increasingly higher technology and added value," he emphasized.

The government is also partnering with the United States and engaging hundreds of industry players to strengthen technical capacity and national compliance standards. This cross-sector synergy is expected to create a secure trading ecosystem without hindering investment and global competitiveness.

"I encourage business actors and associations to actively participate in today's discussion. We look forward to input from the business sector, particularly regarding conditions and needs on the ground, potential implementation challenges, and aspects that the government needs to pay attention to in developing STM in Indonesia," he concluded.
