RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Trade is accelerating the digitalization of marketing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to expand access to export markets.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso said product quality must be matched with the ability to reach consumers, including in international markets. “Good‑quality products are the first requirement. After that, we need to figure out how to sell them,” Minister Budi said while opening the “Gapai Pasar Global dengan AI (Reaching Global Markets with AI)” mentoring program at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as quoted on the Ministry’s official website.
The program is a collaboration between the Ministry, Meta Indonesia, and UKMIndonesia.id, targeting 200 MSMEs in Bandung, Batam, and Jakarta. Participants received training in global market research, digital catalog creation, and advertising through Meta Advantage+.
Minister Budi said AI can support market research, content creation, advertising strategies, and communication with potential buyers. “We are now in the digital age. We must leverage digital technology to penetrate markets, especially overseas markets,” he said.
The Ministry considers the use of digital technology crucial, as MSMEs are projected to contribute 15.7 percent of Indonesia’s exports by 2025. After the initial training, participants undergo seven days of intensive mentoring to optimize their ads and identify potential buyers.
The next phase focuses on export readiness in collaboration with trade attachés and the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), including webinars on logistics, export agreements, and business matchmaking.
The results will be compiled into an SME Export Catalog to be presented at the Business Forum during Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026, scheduled for October 14–18.
Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for Meta in Indonesia and the Philippines, Berni Moestafa, said AI can strengthen MSME competitiveness. “We are optimistic that more local MSMEs will be able to compete in the global market by optimizing AI tools,” he said.
Meta provides Personalized AI and Meta Business Agent to assist with content creation and automate message responses. The Ministry also connects MSMEs with foreign trade networks through the UMKM BISA Ekspor program. ***
