RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) reported an increase in Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves. As of the end of August 2026, foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 146.5 billion, up from USD 145.3 billion the previous month.
“This development in the foreign exchange reserves was primarily influenced by tax and service revenues, as well as the government’s withdrawal of foreign loans,” said BI’s Head of the Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, September 7, 2026.
According to Denny, this occurred amid the government’s foreign debt repayments and policies to stabilize the rupiah exchange rate. “This is a response to the continued high level of uncertainty in global financial markets,” he said.
This foreign exchange reserve level is equivalent to 5.4 months of imports or 5.3 months of imports plus government foreign debt payments. “This means that foreign exchange reserves are higher than the international adequacy standard, which is approximately three months of imports,” said Denny.
BI assesses that these foreign exchange reserves can support the resilience of the external sector and maintain stability in the macroeconomic and financial systems.
BI remains confident that the external sector's resilience will remain strong, supported by adequate foreign exchange reserves and foreign capital inflows. This aligns with investors’ positive perceptions of the national economic outlook and investment returns that remain attractive.
Denny emphasized that BI will continue to enhance coordination with the government to strengthen external resilience. “This aims to maintain economic stability to support sustainable economic growth,” he said. (Gusti Panji-EN)
