RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) launched the Indonesian Credit Card (KKI) on Monday, August 17, 2026, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence. At the same time, BI announced the expansion of the zero‑percent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) policy for the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS).
Acting BI Governor Destry Damayanti said the KKI serves as an alternative payment instrument offering a domestic deferred payment facility. “The introduction of this domestic scheme provides broader opportunities for businesses to enter the digital ecosystem,” Destry said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
She added that the KKI also functions as an alternative credit facility to support household consumption, thereby stimulating public economic activity and contributing to national economic growth.
The KKI can be used as a funding source for QRIS payments, whether through scanning or tapping. Eight payment service providers (PJP) have issued the KKI: BCA, Mandiri, BNI, BRI, CIMB Niaga, Permata, and Mega. BSI also issues the card and develops Sharia‑based financing.
BI will continue to enhance the KKI’s features and services. Meanwhile, the expanded zero‑percent QRIS MDR policy will take effect on October 1, 2026.
“The zero‑percent MDR policy will continue for microbusiness merchants (UMI) for transactions up to Rp500,000,” Destry said. The zero‑percent MDR has also been extended to all merchants for transactions up to Rp100,000, reduced from the previous rate of 0.7 percent.
She said the policy will help business owners reduce transaction costs, enabling the digital economy to be enjoyed more widely and strengthening public purchasing power.
“This policy is a tangible manifestation of BI’s contribution alongside the payment systems industry, and it also serves as an Independence Day gift for the citizens of Indonesia,” said Destry. (Gusti Panji)
