RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is strengthening standardization and quality assurance in the fertilizer industry to boost competitiveness. The initiative is part of broader efforts to reinforce national industrial performance while supporting food security.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that standards and quality assurance form a crucial foundation for building a resilient industrial sector, including strategic industries such as fertilizers that support national food security.
“The implementation of product standardization and quality assurance is not merely about complying with regulations, but is a key strategy for boosting market confidence. This step also strengthens the competitiveness of the national industry, both in domestic and global markets,” Minister Agus said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
As part of these efforts, the Pontianak Industrial Standardization and Services Agency (BSPJI) met with PT Garuda Mas Borneo to accelerate fertilizer product certification and strengthen industrial service support.
Discussions covered opportunities for cooperation in quality improvement through implementing Indonesian National Standards (SNI) and certification mechanisms. Both parties also discussed laboratory testing services and developing human resource competencies through technical training.
The Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, said industrial service units play a vital role in boosting national productivity and competitiveness. These services include standardization, testing, certification, technical inspections, and human resource competency development.
“This initiative is expected to provide tangible benefits for industry players while supporting the growth of a more competitive national industry,” Emmy said.
She emphasized that standardization is an essential tool for ensuring industrial products meet quality, safety, and consistency requirements -- criteria that enable products to compete in global markets.
Meanwhile, BSPJI Pontianak Head Ahmad Nashoruddin Muammar said cooperation with the business community reflects the government’s commitment to guiding industry players. This guidance helps companies meet various standards and certification requirements more effectively.
“This collaboration is a positive first step in building a stronger industrial ecosystem in West Kalimantan. We are ready to support industry players through testing, certification, technical consulting, and human resource capacity building to ensure higher‑quality products,” Ammar said.
He added that the fertilizer industry is a strategic sector that contributes significantly to agriculture and national food security. Therefore, implementing standards and product certification is critical to ensuring the quality of fertilizers available to the public.
Through collaboration between the government and the business community, BSPJI Pontianak expects industry players to make full use of the Ministry’s standardization, testing, certification, and training services.
These efforts are expected to enhance the competitiveness of national industrial products while strengthening a sustainable industrial ecosystem. (Gusti Panji)
