RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Direct flights connecting Palu, Central Sulawesi, and Guangzhou, China, have officially launched, strengthening Indonesia’s air connectivity with international markets.

The new Palu–Guangzhou route is expected to serve as a gateway for increased investment, trade, tourism, and broader economic cooperation between Central Sulawesi and global partners.

“Every international route that is launched not only provides connectivity but also reflects confidence that a region has the potential to grow, attract investment, develop trade, expand tourism, and build closer cooperation with the international community,” said Head of the Makassar Region V Airport Authority M. Mauludin, who represented the Director General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation during the inaugural flight ceremony in Palu on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Mauludin said the Palu–Guangzhou connection carries broader significance than simply opening a new route. Guangzhou is a major hub for trade, industry, and logistics in Asia, while Central Sulawesi continues to grow through its industrial sector, investment, trade, natural resources, and tourism.

“This connectivity is expected to serve as a bridge that brings these various potentials together,” he said.

According to Mauludin, expanded air access will ease public mobility and open greater opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism. The development also allows business operators to reach international markets and strengthen the region’s competitiveness.

He emphasized that the government is not only focused on opening new routes but also on ensuring that air connectivity remains safe, secure, and sustainable, and delivers tangible benefits to the public. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will continue supporting the development of the national air network to strengthen regional integration and drive economic growth.
