  • A dedicated leader will be appointed to supervise the sector, with the President nominating candidates and the House of Representatives (DPR) making the final selection.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s financial services regulator, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has formed a Task Force for the Preparation of Regulations and Supervision of Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchanges, known as the BMKS Task Force. OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that this step was taken to follow up on the mandate of Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK Law).

“Regarding the establishment of the Mineral Exchange, this is mandated by Law No. 4 of 2026, which amends Law No. 4 of 2023 on the development and strengthening of the financial sector, or the P2SK Law,” she said during an online press conference on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

In the future, the OJK will also have a dedicated Member of the Board of Commissioners (ADK) who will serve as the Executive Head of BMKS Supervision. She said that supervision of this sector will officially begin in early 2027.

Friderica explained, “The law stipulates that the operations of the Mineral Exchange and strategic commodities will be regulated and supervised by the OJK effective January 1, 2027, at which time a special executive director will be appointed to oversee the Mineral Exchange and strategic commodities.”

To prepare for this transition, the BMKS Task Force is currently designing the entire framework for regulation and supervision. This includes creating supporting infrastructure such as the organizational structure, human resources, budget management, and information technology.

She explained, “The purpose of this task force is to prepare the regulatory framework and oversight mechanisms for the BMKS sector, for example, by establishing the supporting infrastructure, such as the organizational structure, ensuring the readiness of human resources, and, of course, defining the business processes and regulations. The budget must also be prepared, along with information technology and various other supporting resources.”

Meanwhile, Friderica said the President will nominate candidates for the BMKS Chief Executive Supervisor. The House of Representatives (DPR) will then conduct the selection process in accordance with the law.

“Earlier, regarding the candidate for Chief Executive of the Strategic Minerals and Commodities Exchange Supervisory Agency, if we look at the existing law, it states that the House of Representatives will select the candidate nominated by the President,” she said.
