- Indonesian tempeh generated strong interest and helped secure $8.3 million in potential transactions at the 2026 Summer Fancy Food Show, driven by the growing American demand for plant-based foods.
- To turn this interest into long-term export deals, Indonesian producers must maintain consistent supply, meet U.S. quality standards, and improve product packaging.
RRI.CO.ID, Washington, D.C.– Indonesia’s signature tempeh product has great potential to break into the U.S. market through the 2026 Summer Fancy Food Show (SFFS). This international food exhibition, held June 28–30, 2026, at the Javits Convention Center in New York, successfully recorded potential transactions totaling USD 8.3 million for Indonesian processed food products.
The high buyer interest in tempeh is driven by the growing trend toward plant-based diets and healthy lifestyles in the United States. Indonesia’s Trade Attaché in Washington, D.C., Ranitya Kusumadewi, stated that the government continues to support businesses to ensure this business potential translates into export contracts.

“The potential transactions recorded at SFFS 2026 demonstrate that Indonesian food products are competitive and increasingly in demand in the U.S. market. In addition to the potential transactions, we see very high buyer interest in tempeh in line with the growing trend toward plant-based foods in the United States,” she said, as quoted from a written press release received on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Production capacity readiness and the strengthening of marketing strategies are key for local exporters to meet U.S. market standards. According to her, this is essential for tempeh to become one of Indonesia’s flagship products that is exported sustainably.
“The high level of buyer interest must be matched by businesses’ readiness to maintain production capacity, ensure consistent supply, meet quality standards, and improve packaging and marketing strategies. In this way, the business opportunities created can lead to sustainable exports,” Ranitya said.
The collaboration between the government and business operators successfully showcased a variety of Indonesia’s flagship products in a 28-square-meter pavilion. This participation strengthens Indonesia’s position in one of the world’s largest food export markets.
The United States alone recorded food imports from Indonesia totaling USD 5.97 billion last year. Success at the SFFS 2026 event is expected to further expand the reach of local food products in the global market.
