RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has encouraged strategic partnerships between global businesses and Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry. He welcomed the collaboration between Indonesian private pharmaceutical company PT Tempo Scan and Sino Biopharmaceutical Group.

Both companies have established PT Tempo CTTQ Biopharmaceutical Indonesia (TCBI), a joint venture with China’s Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group (CTTQ). “This partnership demonstrates the business community’s confidence in Indonesia’s investment climate and economic prospects,” Minister Airlangga said during the inauguration ceremony in Jakarta last weekend.

He noted that the joint venture aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision for Indonesia to achieve self‑reliance in the pharmaceutical sector.

Minister Airlangga expects the collaboration to strengthen the national biopharmaceutical industry, particularly in meeting demand for medications to treat oncology, liver, diabetes, respiratory, and infectious diseases.

The partnership is also expected to support the development and production of high‑value biological products, including monoclonal antibodies, biosimilars, recombinant proteins, cytokines, and biological insulin -- many of which are not yet fully available domestically.

Minister Airlangga emphasized that a strong, self‑reliant pharmaceutical industry will reduce dependence on imports. “Especially since the medicines to be produced include imported medicines that are relatively expensive,” he said.

The Indonesia–China joint venture is also expected to advance the national pharmaceutical industry through technology transfer, knowledge exchange, human resource development, improved manufacturing capabilities, and a stronger domestic healthcare supply chain.

In the long term, the partnership is projected to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry and reduce reliance on imported medicines. (Gusti Panji)
