RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The basic metals industry, along with non-machinery metal goods and equipment, led the highest investment realization in Indonesia during the first half of 2026. This subsector successfully recorded a significant investment figure of Rp150.4 trillion, or USD8.36 billion.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani, stated, “In the basic metals industry, non-machinery metal goods, and related equipment, the figure is approximately Rp150.4 trillion, or 14.9%.” He made this statement during a presentation on First-Half Investment Realization in the Cabinet Meeting Room at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Furthermore, Rosan noted that the next-highest position was held by the “other services” sector, which was predominantly data center projects totaling Rp114 trillion or USD 6.355 billion. In addition, the mining sector, as well as the transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors, also contributed significantly to the total.
A sharp increase was also seen in the downstream sector, which now accounts for nearly 30% of the total national investment value in the first half of 2026. The Minister of Investment and Downstreaming noted that investment in downstreaming is predominantly driven by the minerals sector, with a value reaching Rp206.5 trillion or USD11.52 billion.
“We’d like to highlight downstream processing briefly, as the average total contribution of investment in this sector reached nearly 30%, or 29.7%, representing a 6.9% increase compared to the previous year,” he said.
The majority of these downstream processing investment projects are being developed in regions outside Java, such as North Maluku and Sulawesi. The government is also committed to continuing to expand this downstream processing program to sectors beyond minerals.
Interestingly, in the second quarter of 2026, bauxite succeeded in overtaking nickel for the top spot. Rosan noted that the government is now preparing to build a comprehensive ecosystem for bauxite, similar to the one that has already been successfully implemented for nickel.
