RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$0.95 billion in January 2026. This positive achievement extends the national surplus record that has lasted for 69 consecutive months since May 2020.
This impressive performance was driven by strong non-oil and gas exports, which reached US$3.22 billion. On the other hand, the oil and gas sector still recorded a deficit of US$2.27 billion, but overall Indonesia's trade position remained in the green zone.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at the Agency, Ateng Hartono, said that the increase in exports was dominated by the manufacturing industry. This sector grew rapidly by 8.19 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
“In January 2026, Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$0.95 billion. This figure was supported by a non-oil and gas commodity surplus of US$3.22 billion,” Ateng stated at a press conference in Jakarta as quoted from the agency's website on Monday, 2 March 2026.
China, the United States, and India remain Indonesia's main trading partners, contributing 43.77 percent of exports. Leading products such as iron, steel, nickel, and footwear were the most exported commodities to international markets at the beginning of this year.
In addition to trade, BPS also reported a 1.11 percent increase in the number of foreign tourist visits. In the transportation sector, the number of train passengers also jumped by 10.94 percent compared to January last year.
“The value of manufacturing exports rose by 8.19 percent in January 2026 (y-on-y) with a contribution of 6.54 percent,” Ateng said. He also emphasized the significant role of the manufacturing sector in the national economy.
