RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has stepped up efforts to strengthen productive cooperatives, with the Upland Subang Farm Producers Cooperative exporting three tons of mangosteen to China, bringing its total shipments to 40 tons.

The export underscores the growing role of cooperatives in driving overseas sales of regional agricultural commodities.

Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono officially launched the shipment alongside Subang’s deputy regent, accompanied by officials from the Revolving Fund Management Agency for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (LPDB), regional authorities and other stakeholders.

Minister Ferry said the export reflected sustained government assistance, which began with technical guidance provided by the Agriculture Ministry and local agricultural agencies to mangosteen farmers in Subang.

“Today’s mangosteen export to China totals three tons, following previous shipments of 40 tons. This began with farmer development programs by agricultural authorities, which later led to the establishment of the Upland Subang Farm Producers Cooperative. The products have undergone improved processing, certification and other measures to meet international market standards,” Minister Ferry said on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as quoted on the LPDB's official website.

He added that Subang had emerged as one of the country’s key regions in expanding agricultural exports. The regency previously exported coffee to Algeria and has now strengthened its export profile through mangosteen shipments to China.

To support the cooperative’s expansion, Minister Ferry emphasized the role of LPDB, a public service agency under the Cooperatives Ministry, in providing financing.

“LPDB will provide an initial disbursement of IDR 4.9 billion (approx. USD 291,823), which has already been allocated. Financing could later reach up to IDR 20 billion to support the cooperative’s development, accompanied by incubation and mentoring,” he said.

Subang Deputy Regent expressed appreciation for the ministry’s support in helping local agricultural products enter international markets.

“This has been our goal since the agricultural upgrading program was launched. Today proves that the development efforts have been successful. Subang’s mangosteen now meets international standards. We hope exports will expand not only to China but also to the Middle East and other markets,” he said.

LPDB president director Krisdianto said the agency remained committed to strengthening cooperative financing, particularly for export-oriented commodities with broad economic impact.

“LPDB is working to strengthen cooperative capital so they can become more competitive. We are committed to ensuring access to financing for productive cooperatives, including export commodities such as mangosteen, which generate significant economic benefits for farmers, businesses and regional economies,” he said.

He added that LPDB’s support includes not only financing but also improvements in governance, business management and mentoring to ensure sustainable growth.

The cooperative has also adopted modern agricultural technologies, including drones for fertilizer application, to improve efficiency and productivity. The technology enables more precise nutrient distribution, helping increase crop yields.

The mangosteen export marks a tangible example of how cooperatives can build integrated production and business ecosystems while expanding Indonesia’s presence in global agricultural markets. ***
