RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Forestry has strengthened forest governance with the implementation of the Timber Legality and Sustainability Verification System (SVLK+), a digital-based service designed to ensure legality, sustainability, and transparency in Indonesia’s forest product supply chain.

“In the context of global trade, Indonesia is reinforcing the implementation of SVLK as a strategic instrument that not only guarantees timber legality but also ensures sustainability, end-to-end traceability, compliance with environmental standards, and transparent, digitally integrated supply chain management,” said Ristianto Pribadi, Head of the Bureau of Public Relations and International Cooperation, in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

SVLK+ introduces several key enhancements. The first is Integrated Digital Traceability, which documents the entire production flow from upstream to downstream in an electronic system that can be independently verified in real time.

The second is Sustainable Integration (S-PHL), which fully incorporates Sustainable Forest Management Certification to ensure verification extends beyond administrative legality to sustainable practices.

The third pillar is Public Accountability, which provides broader access to information and strengthens the role of independent verification institutions accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).

The fourth is Global Standard Harmonization, which ensures compatibility with major international market regulations, including due diligence requirements and anti-deforestation standards.

“With this approach, Indonesia not only maintains its reputation as a pioneer of credible timber legality systems but also strengthens its bargaining position in international trade cooperation, including with the United States,” Ristianto said. “This system proves that Indonesian forest products come from legal sources, are managed sustainably, and meet the principles of good governance.”

The ministry emphasized that the digital transformation is accompanied by measures to strengthen human resources and law enforcement. Capacity building for Forest Rangers, modernization of monitoring facilities, and integration of a public complaint system are part of a comprehensive strategy to address corruption and illegal practices.

Through SVLK+ and the digitalization of forest governance, Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal trade in forest products, increasing international market confidence, and safeguarding national sovereignty over forest resources in a sustainable manner. ***
