RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture is strengthening cross-sector cooperation to advance the country’s cultural development through the signing of five memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Public Works, the National Library of Indonesia, Public Broadcasting Institution Television of the Republic of Indonesia (TVRI), the National Scout Movement, and the National University. The agreements were signed at the Ministry of Culture building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as part of efforts to build an interconnected cultural ecosystem.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, said that since the establishment of the Ministry of Culture, 38 strategic cooperation agreements have been established with various partners, including the five agreements signed on Tuesday. He emphasized that the cooperation should not remain merely as documents, but should be implemented promptly to deliver tangible benefits to the public.
“The most important thing is that this cooperation must not stop at documents. These Memoranda of Understanding and Cooperation Agreements must serve as a framework for us to work and produce tangible results,” Fadli Zon said.
According to him, advancing culture is a constitutional mandate that requires the involvement of various parties, as culture encompasses not only the arts but also languages, oral traditions, manuscripts, rituals, customs, traditional knowledge, local food, folk games, traditional sports, and various forms of artistic expression. He said the Ministry of Culture could not be the only institution responsible for advancing culture amid Indonesia’s vast cultural wealth.
He explained that the five cooperation agreements have complementary roles in building a cultural ecosystem, ranging from infrastructure to research and human resource development. Infrastructure helps safeguard cultural spaces and assets, libraries strengthen knowledge, the media expands public outreach, the Scout Movement supports cultural transmission to younger generations, while universities contribute to research and capacity development.
Director of Cultural Cooperation at the Ministry of Culture, Mardisontori, said cultural advancement requires support from various sectors because culture is an important part of national character building and civilization. He said synergy among infrastructure, literacy, broadcasting, character education, and academia could help consolidate national strengths and strengthen cultural resilience.
The cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works focuses on strengthening the protection, development, and utilization of cultural heritage sites, museums, as well as cultural facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, the cooperation with the National Library covers the protection and utilization of knowledge resources and collective memory preserved in manuscripts, ancient texts, literary works, written and printed materials, and various recorded works.
The collaboration with TVRI focuses on disseminating cultural information and knowledge to the public, while the cooperation with the National Scout Movement aims to expand the transmission of cultural values, local knowledge, and national history to younger generations. Meanwhile, the cooperation with the National University covers human resource capacity building, knowledge exchange, research, innovation, and the development of cultural programs.
