Ministry Strengthens Music Ecosystem through IDPFEST 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Culture has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s national music and performing arts ecosystem by providing platforms for appreciation, creativity, and talent nurturing among artists. The commitment was expressed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon when he opened the 10th-anniversary edition of the Indonesia Drum & Percussion Festival (IDPFEST) 2026 at the Grand Theater of Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta.

Based on the release received by RRI Voice Of Indonesia on Monday, September 7, 2026, Fadli Zon praised the consistency of IDPFEST, which has now reached its 10th year. He said the festival’s continued existence was an important achievement and could serve as a platform for nurturing new musical talents in Indonesia.

“This is an extraordinary achievement, to have been held consistently for 10 consecutive years. Hopefully, this can become one of the sources for nurturing future generations of Indonesian musicians,” Fadli Zon said.

Fadli said the Ministry of Culture was ready to facilitate and build collaborations to further develop Indonesia’s music ecosystem. These efforts include promoting the country’s rich traditional music heritage and bringing it to a wider international audience.

According to Fadli, Indonesia has a diverse range of traditional music stretching from Sabang to Merauke, including various percussion instruments and drumming traditions from different regions. He said this diversity represents a form of cultural acculturation that can be developed into engaging performing arts works.

“Our traditional percussion instruments also need to be continuously introduced to the world,” Fadli Zon emphasized. He added that the Ministry of Culture was ready to encourage Indonesian percussion musicians to participate in various international festivals to introduce traditional instruments to global audiences.

Marking its 10th anniversary, IDPFEST 2026 carries the theme “From Nature to Indonesian Music”, bringing together creativity, education, appreciation, and talent regeneration in percussion music. The festival, initiated by musician and actor Ekki Soekarno, serves as a platform for young people to learn about, develop, and modernize Indonesia’s rich traditional music heritage.

The Ministry of Culture hopes that the diversity of percussion forms, sounds, and traditions across Indonesia will continue to be preserved and reinvigorated through collaborations and creative works by younger generations. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening the national performing arts ecosystem and introducing Indonesia’s cultural richness to international audiences.
