RRI.CO.ID, Padang - The Padang City Administration is positioning the Padayo Bat Cave (Goa Kelelawar Padayo) in Indarung Village, Lubuk Kilangan Subdistrict, West Sumatra, as a premier geological educational site and special-interest eco-tourism destination.
During an inspection of the site located within the PT Semen Padang complex on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Padang Mayor Fadly Amran highlighted the cave's complete rock formations, described as textbook quality, and its population of four bat species. The initiative aligns with the city's Jelajah Padang flagship tourism program.
Padang Tourism Agency Head Yenni Yuliza noted that infrastructure upgrades initiated in 2025, including interior path lighting, rock-climbing routes, gazebos, directional signage, security cameras, and an outer camping ground, are being expanded. Additionally, the municipal administration, the Padang Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), and PT Semen Padang are collaborating to construct a dedicated public access road to bypass the company’s operational zone.
Municipal leaders and tourism officials emphasized that developing special-interest tourism infrastructure must strictly prioritize habitat preservation and environmental sustainability.
Padang Mayor Fadly Amran stressed the importance of eco-friendly infrastructure planning for local tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis).
"The rock formations here are exceptionally complete and offer valuable educational insights into cave openings and geological processes, I have instructed the Pokdarwis team to ensure that all future development preserves the natural environment and strictly avoids disrupting the native bat habitat inside the cave," Fadly said in Padang on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
Head of the Padang Tourism Agency Yenni Yuliza detailed the ongoing facility enhancements and multi-stakeholder road access project.
"We are upgrading the interior pathways and preparing special-interest activities such as rock climbing, Alongside gazebos, directional signs, and CCTV installation, land for a new independent access road has been secured, and we are collaborating with the DPRD and PT Semen Padang to fund construction so visitors no longer need to pass through operational industrial zones," Yenni Yuliza added on Monday, August 31, 2026. ***
