RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The 4th Kalibaru Festival in North Jakarta’s Cilincing Subdistrict drew strong participation this year, with 2,300 carnival performers in colorful costumes and 400 boats enlivening the waterfront celebration on August 29–30, 2026.
Kalibaru, a long-established coastal fishing community in North Jakarta, is known for its maritime heritage and local traditions, making the festival an important cultural event for residents.
North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat said the festival reflects the community's unity and collective spirit. “This is not just an ordinary celebration, but proof of solidarity, cooperation, and love for the homeland,” he said on Sunday, August 30, 2026, noting how the event has grown since its debut in 2023 from a coastal cultural gathering into a full-fledged people’s festival, as quoted by Antara.
Hendra emphasized that the festival’s strength lies in its people, who are not merely spectators but active participants bringing each activity to life. He described Kalibaru as a coastal gem with rich natural, cultural, and local wisdom that must be preserved and developed.
Festival Chair Abdul Karim echoed this sentiment, praising the collaboration among residents, government, and stakeholders. “Without everyone’s cooperation, the Kalibaru Festival would not be possible,” he said, adding that the involvement of thousands of participants demonstrates the community’s enthusiasm.
