Yogyakarta, KOICA Explore Creative Economy Development Partnership

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Yogyakarta is ready to partner with KOICA Indonesia on cultural and creative economy development. The partnership was discussed in Yogyakarta on Monday, August 24, 2026, during a coordination meeting.

The Indonesian Government of Yogyakarta Special Region proposed Taman Budaya Yogyakarta as a hub for creative talent development. The proposal aims to strengthen cultural and creative industry ecosystems while expanding opportunities nationally and globally.

Assistant for Government and Public Welfare Affairs at the Yogyakarta Special Region Secretariat, Aria Nugrahadi, said Yogyakarta is ready to become an active partner. He said cooperation should be built on mutual understanding, trust, and shared goals.

“With cultural assets, human resources and a collaborative ecosystem, Yogyakarta Special Region is ready to become an active partner. We are committed to implementing this cooperation,” he said.

Program Officer at KOICA Indonesia, Nurul Hafizah, said the Indonesia Culture and Creative Economy Ecosystem program would explore cultural assets. The program would support a more sustainable ecosystem for culture and creative industries, with an estimated value of 10 million US dollars.

However, Nurul said the final value would depend on the readiness of the Yogyakarta Special Region and Indonesian governments. The program remains under assessment and will undergo further evaluation before implementation.

Country Director of KOICA Indonesia, Kim Jin-hee, said the prefeasibility study involves representatives from various institutions and experts. Their involvement aims to assess the possibility of implementing the program in Yogyakarta.

“At this early stage, we cannot immediately say that we will implement this project because many variables could still affect the process,” Kim said.

The prefeasibility study will continue through a Project Concept Paper with Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), targeted for completion in October 2026. If approved, a feasibility study and in-depth study are planned for 2027, with cooperation documents targeted for signing in 2028.
