RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A full-scale 1:1 cardboard installation of a traditional Indonesian Pinisi schooner, titled Pinisi Nusantara, serves as the primary highlight of a national cultural and eco-friendly art exhibition held at Pacific Place Mall in Central Jakarta, following its official unveiling on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Measuring 12 by 6 meters, the interactive installation was constructed using over 1,000 sheets of 100 percent recycled fiber cardboard through a creative collaboration between design firm Dus Duk Duk, visual artist Erika Richardo, and Pacific Place Mall.

Timed to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day, the centerpiece transforms UNESCO-recognized maritime heritage into a contemporary art display featuring hand-painted murals depicting Indonesian cultural maps spanning from Papua to Sumatra. Designed as an immersive walkthrough experience, the exhibition remains open to the public through September 5, 2026.

Ministers and creative economy leaders emphasized that combining indigenous cultural heritage with sustainable materials creates high-value artistic expressions that elevate Indonesia's national identity globally.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar highlighted cultural heritage as the nation's core competitive advantage.

"Our creative economy's biggest unique selling point lies in our culture. Only Indonesia possesses such extraordinary heritage stretching from Sabang to Merauke, this is not just creative, aesthetic, and functional, but also an effort where sustainability actively functions. The task of the creative economy is to ensure our culture remains relevant to Indonesian youth and stays cool and amazing for the international community," Minister Irene said at Pacific Place in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as quoted on Ministry's official website.

Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha Djumariyo, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, also attended the launch to support cross-ministerial initiatives promoting national identity through modern artistic mediums. ***
