Tokyo Tabligh Akbar Highlights Worship in Muslim-Minority Japan

RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo - Indonesian citizens living in Japan have been encouraged to maintain harmony with local communities by adapting to Japanese culture, obeying local laws, maintaining public order, and building good communication without neglecting their religious obligations.

The message was conveyed by the Coordinator of the Information, Social and Cultural Affairs Function at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Muhammad Al Aula, during the Tabligh Akbar Safari Dakwah at Balai Indonesia on Sunday.

“Maintaining harmony while living abroad requires Indonesian citizens to adapt to local culture, respect local laws, and actively build good communication with fellow Indonesians as well as local residents. In the life of the Muslim diaspora in Japan, the need to worship and uphold good moral conduct must go hand in hand while living among Japanese society,” he said, as quoted from an official statement on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The event was organized by PCI Muhammadiyah Japan and PRIM Tokyo, featuring Nur Fajri Romadhon as the preacher. It discussed how Indonesian Muslims can practice their faith while adapting to life in Muslim-minority Japan.

According to Al Aula, Muslims living in Japan need to adapt to local rules and customs. Maintaining cleanliness, order, and respect for regulations are also important in building a positive image of Indonesians.

“Living in a Muslim-minority country certainly requires many adjustments so that we can live side by side with Japanese people in our daily lives. Maintaining order, following the rules, and keeping our surroundings clean are part of everyday life in Japan, and these should not be unfamiliar practices for Muslims, as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad,” he said.

Al Aula said the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo continues to support Indonesian community activities. More than 260,000 Indonesians currently live in Japan with diverse backgrounds and activities.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo always supports various activities organized by Indonesian communities in Japan. There are more than 260,000 Indonesians in Japan from various religious backgrounds and activities. All of you are ambassadors of Indonesia in Japan. Show that we are a nation that is orderly, law-abiding, and ready to be friends with anyone,” he added.

Committee Chairman Moch. Zamzam Rajab Awaluddin appreciated the embassy’s support, saying the program helps Indonesian Muslims practice their faith peacefully while living in Japan.

“PCI Muhammadiyah Japan seeks to help Indonesian Muslims in Japan carry out their daily activities peacefully in the Land of the Rising Sun while continuing to worship with peace of mind. That is why we organized this event, so that we can learn together about practicing our faith in a Muslim-minority country. Thank you for the support from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo,” he explained.

Nur Fajri Romadhon said Islam provides flexibility for Muslims facing certain circumstances while practicing their faith in a Muslim-minority country. “In the end, we have a responsibility to maximize our potential to spread goodness to all humanity, including here in Japan,” Ustadz Nur Fajri Romadhon said.

The Tabligh Akbar Safari Dakwah, themed “Harmony of Faith, Knowledge, and Deeds in the Land of the Rising Sun,” runs from August 1 to 12, 2026, in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Yokohama, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Hokkaido.
