RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, officially opened NUSANOVA 2.0 SEKAR JAGAT, a fashion installation and visual exhibition showcasing the latest Nusantara textile collection by renowned Indonesian designer Ivan Gunawan. Held at D Gallerie in Jakarta from August 3 to 7, 2026, the exhibition is expected to strengthen the international promotion of Indonesia’s rich textile heritage through fashion.

Fadli said exhibitions such as NUSANOVA play an important role in advancing Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy by introducing traditional textiles to a wider global audience. According to him, batik and other Nusantara textiles have evolved beyond cultural heritage into valuable cultural and creative industries.

“Culture is at the upstream, while the creative economy, tourism, and other sectors are downstream. We need to further develop our cultural heritage, and one way to do that is through the work of our fashion designers,” Fadli said.

He added that Indonesian fashion designers have an important role in bringing the country's traditional textiles to the international stage. “Our fashion designers can introduce our traditional textiles, including batik, to the world and position them at the center of global civilization,” he said.

NUSANOVA 2.0 features collections inspired by Batik Sekar Jagat from Pamekasan, Madura, a textile tradition renowned for its bold colors and distinctive visual identity. Through Ivan Gunawan’s creative interpretation, the batik is transformed into modern, feminine, and contemporary fashion pieces suitable for international runways and red-carpet events.

Fadli also praised Ivan Gunawan for supporting batik artisans, cultural practitioners, and local communities that sustain Indonesia’s textile heritage. He expressed hope that more Indonesian designers would embrace local cultural traditions while collaborating with international designers to accelerate the global promotion of Indonesian textiles.

Meanwhile, Ivan Gunawan said the exhibition was designed to make fashion and traditional textiles more accessible, particularly to young people and fashion students. “As a fashion designer, I do not want my work to remain exclusive. I want the public, textile enthusiasts, and especially young fashion students to experience these creations firsthand, learn from them, and find inspiration. Fashion also has an important role in education and culture, which is why this exhibition is open to everyone free of charge,” he said.

Through NUSANOVA 2.0, the Ministry of Culture hopes to inspire more fashion innovations rooted in Indonesia’s cultural heritage while strengthening the national fashion ecosystem. The initiative also reflects the government's commitment to positioning Nusantara textiles as symbols of Indonesia’s cultural identity and competitive assets on the global fashion stage.
