RRI.CO.ID, Bandar Lampung - Bandarlampung is turning its 344th anniversary celebrations into an effort for cultural preservation, using the annual Begawi Bandarlampung Festival to pass down regional heritage to the younger generation and draw national tourism.

The festival features a massive decorated vehicle parade and extensive cultural pageants designed to showcase the diverse indigenous traditions deeply rooted within the city.

Local authorities hope that visually spectacular displays will help young people develop a profound appreciation for local identities in an increasingly modernized world, while simultaneously putting the city on the radar of global and domestic travelers.

Bandarlampung Mayor Eva Dwiana emphasized the educational and economic goals of the annual event during the parade kickoff on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

"This Decorated Vehicle Festival and Begawi Bandarlampung Cultural Parade are held to introduce the regional cultures present in Bandarlampung City. We hope that the community, especially the youth, can better understand and appreciate the beauty of Lampung culture and traditions from other regions. Of course, we also want to inform both domestic and international tourists about Lampung's rich heritage," Mayor Eva said, as quoted by Antara.

Eva noted that the grand event serves a dual purpose: reinforcing regional identity and acting as a tourism magnet to accelerate local economic turnover.

The cultural parade brought together 538 participants, creating a massive display of Indonesian pluralism. The lineup featured marching bands, the city's youth ambassadors (Muli Menghanai), the traditional Saibatin Marga Teluk Betung council, and representatives displaying the unique customs of the Dayak, West Java, Cirebon, East Java, Minangkabau (Bundo Kandung), and ethnic Chinese communities, alongside the city's interfaith harmony forum.

Additionally, the parade featured 82 intricately decorated vehicles representing local administration offices, state-owned enterprises, subdistricts, and higher education institutions. Head of Bandarlampung Tourism Agency Adiansyah added that the annual festival serves as a vital report card for the city's public service developments.

"Beyond preserving heritage, this event serves to inform the public about the development achievements that the Bandarlampung Municipal Administration has accomplished so far. Held annually in conjunction with the city's anniversary, it stands as a key tourism highlight capable of drawing local and national visitors, which is expected to boost economic growth for the grassroots community," Adiansyah concluded. ***
