RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - The ARTJOG contemporary art festival will return from June 19 to August 30, 2026, at the Jogja National Museum (JNM), Yogyakarta, with a new curatorial direction under Farah Wardani.
Quoting a press statement released recently, for the 2026–2028 cycle, Farah introduces the theme ARS LONGA Trilogia (The Trilogy of Long Art), reflecting the idea that art endures as a vital part of life, always relevant to shifting social, cultural, and political contexts.
The first chapter, ARS LONGA: GENERATIO, focuses on generational dialogue and artistic practice. Commissioned artist Roby Dwi Antono will interpret the theme through works on the museum façade, sculptures, and immersive spaces.
ARTJOG will also present works by 25 invited artists, 19 young artists under 35, and 52 children and teenagers (ages 6–15) through the ARTJOG Kids program, ensuring inclusivity across generations.
The concept unfolds through two approaches: Dialogus and Practica. Dialogus emphasizes intergenerational collaboration, showing how artists expand their roles through networks that empower younger creators. Practica highlights individual works that reflect diverse practices, discourses, and the spirit of contemporary times, offering a panoramic view of today’s artistic landscape.
Running alongside ARTJOG, the second edition of Chapter Jogja will also take place at JNM. This collaborative art fair brings together regional and international galleries with Yogyakarta’s art communities, reinforcing JNM’s role as a cultural hub.
The synergy between ARTJOG and Chapter Jogja positions the museum as a sustainable ecosystem where contemporary discourse, market spaces, and urban dynamics converge.
ARTJOG continues its tradition as Yogyakarta’s “Lebaran Seni,” (Art Season) a cultural celebration supported by Jogja Art Weeks (JAW). This year, JAW collaborates with Festicity, a program initiated by the Forum Jogja Festival, to strengthen connections among festivals across Yogyakarta and its surroundings.
The collaboration underscores ARTJOG’s role in weaving networks and cultural interactions into the city’s evolving urban fabric.
Inclusivity remains central through the Love ARTJOG program, which invites disabled artists to explore their practices in collaboration with Yogyakarta’s art communities.
Partnering with Tab Space Bandung, the program also trains elementary to high school students to assist disabled artists during exhibitions, fostering empathy and participation while building a more inclusive art ecosystem.
Environmental concerns take center stage in The Others Lab, supported by TACO Laminate Indonesia and Studio Banda Bali. This program integrates design perspectives into everyday life through experimental methods, complemented by public discussions and workshops that encourage exploration of materials and sustainability.
Performance art will thrive under performa ARTJOG, supported by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation. The program features open-call performers and special collaborations, including French musicians Violet Indigo and Watchdog, as well as a cross-cultural ensemble with Project Eleven Australia.
Highlights include multidisciplinary works such as “Daughters of the Sea” by Artistique Théâtre (France) and “Ma ‘Bua’” by choreographer Densiel Lebang, alongside performances by the Australian Art Orchestra and Serenata Choir of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta.
Beyond exhibitions and performances, ARTJOG 2026 will host Exhibition Tours, Meet the Artist sessions, ARTCARE Indonesia, and the Merchandise Project, collaborating with artists and brands like Sirin Farid Stevy, Pable Indonesia, Dagadu, and Rumah Atsiri Indonesia.
Supported by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, Bank BRI, Pertamina, and other partners, ARTJOG 2026 promises to be a landmark in Yogyakarta’s cultural calendar. More details are available through ARTJOG’s official channels at www.artjog.id.
This year’s festival highlights the enduring relevance of ARS LONGA, the evolving role of generational dialogue in art, and Yogyakarta’s position as a hub for contemporary art festivals. ***
