RI.CO.ID, Mataram - The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Center in West Nusa Tenggara has announced the reopening of the Senaru hiking trail following a temporary closure due to a forest fire in the area.
Head of the Administration Subdivision at the TNGR Center, Astekita Ardiarsito, said that following firefighting efforts and a joint evaluation and assessment involving stakeholders, the Senaru hiking trail within Mount Rinjani National Park had been declared safe to reopen.
"The Senaru hiking trail is reopening starting October 3, 2026," Astekita said in Mataram on Saturday, as reported by Antara.
He explained that the reopening was approved after authorities confirmed the fire had been fully extinguished and inspected hiking facilities and infrastructure to ensure visitor safety. "Tourists intending to hike can register online through the eRinjani application," he said.
With the reopening of the Senaru trail, all five hiking routes at Mount Rinjani National Park, namely Sembalun, Senaru, Tibanuh, Tetebatu, and Aik Berik, are now operating normally. "There are currently five hiking trails open," he said.
Previously, forest fires along the Senaru and Torean trails burned mountain casuarina trees, shrubs, bushes, grasslands, mountain savanna, dry leaves, and other understory vegetation, resulting in surface fires.
"Based on preliminary monitoring as of September 29, 2026, the affected area covers 1,098.75 hectares, and no new or expanding hotspots have been detected," he said.
"This figure remains a preliminary estimate and will be updated based on field monitoring, drone documentation, and boundary verification," he added.
He said the affected area was monitored using drones from a distance of 350 meters. The remaining hotspots consist of previously burned standing trees that are isolated and not spreading. "The team remains on standby to anticipate any reignition. Monitoring has been intensified through patrols and inspections of visitors' belongings," he said.
The forest fire at Bukit Setampol in the Torean Resort area of Mount Rinjani in Lombok broke out on Sept. 22, 2026. ***
