Gibran Meets Tangerang Church Delegation After Worship Service Disruption

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming received representatives of the Indonesian Christian Protestant Church (GKPI) Rajeg congregation, Tangerang Regency, Banten at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The Vice Presidential Secretariat said the meeting reflected the government's attention to the congregation, whose worship service had previously been disrupted, as well as an effort to hear their concerns about ensuring safe and comfortable worship.
During the meeting, GKPI Rajeg pastor Hadi Sucipto Pakpahan, expressed his appreciation for the Vice President's attention to the situation faced by his congregation. "Thank you, Mr. Vice President, for giving your attention and concern to the entire GKPI Rajeg congregation, whose worship service was disrupted on Sunday, September 20," he said.
Pastor Hadi further said the Vice President had urged the congregation to remain calm and help maintain a conducive atmosphere in the community while continuing to worship comfortably.
"And of course, Mr. Vice President advised the congregation to remain calm, remain joyful, and continue to help maintain a conducive atmosphere in the community. We were also advised to continue worshiping comfortably," he added.
Pastor Hadi further expressed his gratitude for the Vice President's concern for the GKPI Rajeg congregation. He also said that resolving the congregation's problems should prioritize religious harmony, compliance with licensing requirements, and good communication with the surrounding community.
"And of course, I am very grateful that the Vice President has shown such full attention. It means that the Vice President also cares about what the GKPI Rajeg congregation has experienced, and of course, the guidance given was for us to remain encouraged and continue to prioritize religious harmony," Pastor Hadi said.
"Then, regarding permits, when we later worship at the new location, we can process the permits in accordance with the applicable regulations. And as I said earlier, we need to engage with the surrounding community so that we can maintain good relations going forward," he conveyed.
Previously, residents confronted the GKPI Rajeg prayer house while congregants were worshiping on Sunday, September 20, 2026, over its legal status. The dispute has since been resolved through mediation, but the church has yet to move to a permanent location.
