East Jakarta Promotes Eco-Friendly Travel Through Green Tourism Festival

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The East Jakarta Municipal Administration is advocating for environmentally conscious tourism development that balances ecological sustainability, local culture, and economic benefits through the Green Tourism Festival 2026.
Speaking in Jakarta on Monday following the event held at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Sunday, East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin reaffirmed the administration's commitment to maintaining green spaces across all local tourist destinations.
"We have committed that the final output of this Green Tourism Festival is that tourist spots in East Jakarta must remain green," Munjirin said on Monday, September 28, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that East Jakarta possesses significant tourism potential, ranging from major landmarks like Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) and the Cibubur Urban Forest to the East Flood Canal (BKT) and neighborhood-based ecotourism projects, that requires wider public promotion without compromising environmental integrity.
"The development of tourist destinations in East Jakarta must continue to prioritize environmental conservation, we continue to drive the Friday Planting (Jumat Menanam) movement to maintain greenery, including within tourist destination areas," Munjirin explained.
The green tourism concept actively involves local communities, cultural and environmental groups, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and youth organizations. Munjirin expressed hope that the festival will foster long-term collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop sustainable, eco-friendly travel hubs.
"Hopefully, the government, community, organizations, business world, and younger generation can work together to develop eco-friendly and sustainable tourist destinations," Munjirin said, adding that municipal authorities aim to establish the Green Tourism Festival as an annual event to encourage the use of urban green open spaces as alternative cultural and recreational destinations. ***
