RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP DPR RI) is pushing the Riau Provincial Administration to build structured workforce development programs targeting Japan's employment market.
During a meeting at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Mazaat met with Political Director of the Embassy of Japan Tanaka Motoyasu, Riau Regional Secretary Syahrial Abdi, and representatives from the Ministry of Manpower.
The parliamentary committee recommended introducing early Japanese language curriculum across senior high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) in Riau to ensure graduates possess the requisite language proficiency for internship programs and professional roles in Japan.
To accelerate recruitment, BKSAP proposed leveraging business-to-business (B2B) frameworks involving qualified private agencies if direct government-to-government (G2G) channels require additional processing time. Beyond manpower, the dialogue highlighted economic investment opportunities, specifically encouraging Japanese firms to introduce processing technology for Riau’s coconut downstream sector to turn coir and coconut shells into high-value export commodities.
"This cooperation is expected not to stop at a meeting, but to be followed up in the form of programs that provide direct benefits for the people of Riau, equipping students with Japanese language skills early on can help graduates from Riau be better prepared to participate in internship programs and enter the workforce in Japan," Syahrul said in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
He said that opportunity for cooperation can also utilize business-to-business (B2B) schemes involving competent private companies or institutions if government-to-government (G2G) mechanisms cannot yet be conducted directly. "Riau holds great potential as a coconut center in Indonesia, and cooperation can be directed toward utilizing Japanese technology to process coconut, including coir and shell, into products with added value," Syahrul added. ***
