Jambi Promotes Kerinci Coffee Ecosystem for Global Markets

RRI.CO.ID, Kerinci - Kerinci coffee from Jambi Province is strengthening its appeal in international markets following the shipment of 14 tons to Canada and Malaysia, with a combined value of IDR 2.4 billion (USD 150,000). The province’s flagship commodity has also secured a new export agreement with the United States, worth IDR 6.5 billion (USD 406,250).

Head of the Jambi Provincial Communication and Informatics Agency, Ariansyah, said future development of Kerinci coffee would focus not only on increasing production.

“Developing a comprehensive ecosystem must cover cultivation, productivity improvement, post-harvest handling, and processing quality standardization. These efforts must then be strengthened through packaging, certification, branding, promotion, and expanded access to domestic and international markets,” said Ariansyah while opening the 2026 Kerinci Coffee Farmers’ People’s Festival at the Batang Sangir Village Field in Kerinci Regency on Friday, September 11, 2026.

He said the coffee festival represented a strategic opportunity to expand the market for Jambi coffee. The event also provided a platform for investment opportunities and sound partnerships among stakeholders.

According to him, the event must not stop at serving as a promotional occasion, but should become part of a local economic development strategy that contributes to the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

As reported by Antara, the strategy is also expected to create jobs, empower younger generations, and promote agrotourism and cultural development in Kerinci Regency.

On the occasion, the administration and relevant stakeholders officially dispatched seven tons of Kerinci coffee to Canada, valued at IDR 1.2 billion (USD 75,000). Another shipment of the same volume and value was sent to Malaysia to meet demand from two purchasing companies.

The strengthening of global market access was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between a coffee management and trading company and a company from the United States. Under the agreement, two containers of coffee are scheduled to be shipped in October and November 2026, with the exports valued at IDR 6.5 billion (USD 406,250).

In addition to expanding market access, the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) is working to improve farmers’ access to financing. This support specifically targets coffee agroforestry businesses managed by forest farmer groups and social forestry initiatives.

The agency, which operates under the Ministry of Finance, plans to provide assistance worth IDR 1.5 billion (USD 93,750) to 100 assisted farmers in Kerinci and Bengkulu. “By 2027, the BPDLH is targeting the distribution of IDR 37.5 billion (USD 2.34 million),” he concluded. ***
