RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra is mobilizing its network of 14 vocational high schools, maritime polytechnic, and healthcare academies to serve as a primary supply hub for skilled Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) entering the global job market.
The regency's specialized vocational portfolio took center stage during an audience between Padang Pariaman Regent John Kenedy Azis and Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Christina Aryani in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Encompassing 17 subdistricts, Padang Pariaman boasts established specialized institutions, including the Merchant Marine Polytechnic alongside several nursing and midwifery schools, making it uniquely equipped to meet specific international demands in maritime navigation, healthcare, and industrial sectors.
Under the SMK Go Global framework, ministry officials and regency leaders are mapping local institutional outputs to international labor criteria, ensuring candidates undergo targeted upskilling ahead of Batch 2's rollout in mid-September 2026. "Padang Pariaman possesses 14 vocational high schools (SMK), and key higher vocational institutions such as the Merchant Marine Polytechnic and dedicated nursing and midwifery academies, we actively want to fulfill the global demand for skilled Indonesian migrant workers by leveraging these exact academic assets.
