RRI.CO.ID, Tarakan - North Kalimantan’s rich natural resources are once again drawing global attention. Through a strategic partnership with East Java, the region’s flagship commodities, abundant swiftlet nests and roundwood logs, are now poised to break into international export markets.
East Java Governor, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, said North Kalimantan’s swiftlet nest potential is vast and will be a key focus following this visit.
“Two months ago we just returned from Hong Kong. Three years ago, we had considerable difficulty channeling swiftlet nests through Hong Kong to markets in South Korea, Japan, and China. But two months ago, we were able to enter in fairly significant volumes,” said Khofifah at Tarakan Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
She stressed that this market access benefits not only East Java but also opens major opportunities for North Kalimantan’s swiftlet farmers to reach global buyers. Beyond swiftlet nests, Khofifah noted that roundwood logs are also in high demand among East Java businesses.
The cooperation between the two regions is not limited to specific raw materials, it also targets various other productive sectors. By Tuesday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. local time, total transaction value recorded at the business forum reached IDR 2.1 trillion (USD 120 million), with some reports later citing a final tally near IDR 2.5 trillion.
Key commodities dominating the transactions included processed poultry meat and chicken carcasses, as well as fisheries products. Khofifah emphasized the importance of a shared commitment to grow, advance, develop, and prosper together. This economic synergy is expected to drive inclusive growth, create jobs, and reduce poverty in both regions.
“No success is achieved alone. The more collaboration and synergy we build, if God’s willing, the greater the success we will achieve,” she concluded. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
