RRI.CO.ID, Lubukbasung - Through the local community’s commitment to preserving nature and culture, Simarasok Tourism Village in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, has secured a place among the top 30 finalists of the Wonderful Indonesia Award 2026. This achievement is tangible proof that tourism management based on mutual cooperation and environmental conservation enables village potential to compete at the national level.
Head of the Agam Regency Tourism, Youth, and Sports Agency, Kasman Zaini, conveyed that this accomplishment is a major source of pride for West Sumatra and Agam Regency. It demonstrates that Simarasok Tourism Village’s natural assets, cultural richness, creative economy potential, and community hospitality can shine on the national stage.
“This is our pride and one step closer to becoming the best at the national level,” he said in Lubuk Basung on Sunday, 6 September 2026.
Kasman said this achievement stems from the hard work of the community and the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in managing the tourism village. He added that the village is endowed with naturally preserved attractions, including caves, white-water rafting, and other features maintained in their pristine, eco-friendly condition.
“The natural potential in the area is truly extraordinary and remains pristine, offering significant room for development,” he said.
He further noted that with Simarasok’s entry into the top 30 of the Wonderful Indonesia Award 2026, the announcement of the top 15 finalists is expected shortly. In preparation, the team plans to increase promotional posts highlighting the village’s attractions, including the Batuang Putiah bathing site, nature tourism, and other offerings.
“We are optimizing this in line with guidance from the Ministry of Tourism’s curators to more actively promote our existing potential,” said Kasman, as quoted by Antara.
Should Simarasok advance to the top 15, a curator team from the Ministry of Tourism will visit Simarasok Tourism Village in Nagari Simarasok, Baso Subdistrict. The team will conduct a one-week verification process to confirm the data previously submitted through the official application.
Simarasok is one of Agam Regency’s tourism villages with the most diverse range of attractions, spanning rafting, rock climbing, caving, and glamping. Visitors can also enjoy trekking trails, cultural tourism experiences, homestay accommodations, and the scenic views of Puncak Bukik Karang. ***
