Indonesia Deports Five Chinese Nationals Over Illegal Australia Transit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration has deported and blacklisted five Chinese nationals who used Indonesia as an unauthorized transit corridor to illegally reach Australia.
The five individuals, identified as LH (45), LJ (54), WY (59), XC (40), and ZJ (50), were initially intercepted on August 18, 2026, by Atambua Immigration officers at Atapupu Port in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The group had entered Indonesia in late July via Batam on valid Visas on Arrival (VoA) and visit visas.
However, authorities grew suspicious when they discovered the men aboard an unmanifested speedboat claiming to be on a fishing trip to Lirang Island, Maluku, despite lacking proper fishing equipment, possessing inadequate travel funds of only IDR 4 million (USD 226), and traveling on a vessel that had deviated without permit from its approved Lombok-Sape route.
Following investigation, the Atambua Immigration Office executed their deportation via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on August 25, 2026, and officially placed all five individuals on the national entry blacklist.
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko reiterated the agency's firm stance on sovereign border protection and legal enforcement. "The Directorate General of Immigration remains fully committed to maintaining state security and sovereignty while protecting the public through professional law enforcement, we continuously strengthen oversight over foreign nationals to prevent any misuse of Indonesian territory as an illegal transit route to destination countries," Hendarsam said in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Head of the Atambua Immigration Office Jusuf Ginting detailed the investigative inconsistencies that led to the interception and subsequent deportation.
"The suspects provided misleading statements to officers regarding their travel intent, which posed risks to public order and border security, discrepancies in their sailing permits, lack of passenger manifest entries, insufficient funds for long-distance maritime travel, and ill-equipped fishing gear confirmed their true intention to use Indonesia as an illegal transit corridor toward Australia," Jusuf Ginting explained. ***
