RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - Ngurah Rai Immigration Office officers in Bali intercepted a 27-year-old Australian national, identified as BA, at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as he attempted to board a flight to Brisbane following a public indecency investigation.
The suspect was flagged via the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM) and placed on a Subject of Interest (SOI) list following joint intelligence monitoring with the Badung Police. Authorities identified BA from closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing an indecent act committed in the yard of a residential home in North Kuta, Badung Regency.
Following his interception at the international departure terminal, BA was handed over to the Badung Police for further legal proceedings, while law enforcement continues investigating the identity and whereabouts of a female foreign national allegedly involved in the incident. Following the incident, the homeowner performed a traditional Balinese Hindu cleansing ceremony.
Immigration authorities and law enforcement highlighted that digital surveillance integration and inter-agency collaboration are critical to upholding public order and legal accountability for foreign visitors. Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Muhamad Novyandri detailed the digital tracking process that enabled the interception.
"The suspect’s profile was identified within SIMKIM (Immigration Management Information System), allowing us to immediately integrate his data into our 'Subject of Interest' list, SIMKIM functions as an integrated information system that collects and processes real-time data to support decision-making at border checkpoints. By linking the suspect's data to the SOI system, officers instantly detected him during departure screening," Novyandri said in Denpasar on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He emphasized that immigration enforcement will remain vigilant against violations by foreign nationals. "Immigration will continue to strengthen intelligence-based supervision, advance technological integration, and maintain close cross-agency collaboration, this ensures that potential legal violations by foreign nationals are detected and managed rapidly in full accordance with statutory regulations," Novyandri added. ***
