Bulu Serang Decorated Boat Festival Boosts Boyolali Tourism

RRI.CO.ID, Boyolali - Dozens of decorated boats enlivened the Bulu Serang tourism area in Wonoharjo Village, Kemusu Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency, Central Java, on Sunday, 23 August 2026. The waters of the Kedung Ombo Reservoir came alive, becoming a major attraction for visiting tourists.
A total of 30 boats owned by fishers and floating-cage fish farmers were transformed into a range of distinctive designs, from dragon and lobster replicas to tilapia. The colourful boats then sailed around the fish-farming area, showcasing the area’s water-tourism potential.
A member of the Decorated Boat Festival organising committee, Dwi Yulianto, said the event involved not only Boyolali residents but also fish farmers from neighbouring regions, including Sragen and Purwodadi. The festival was held as a concrete effort to introduce the potential of Bulu Serang Tourism Village to a wider audience.
“We are providing a range of attractive prizes for participants with the best creations, including electronic goods, certificates, trophies, and even goats,” Dwi said on Sunday.
Participants showed strong enthusiasm. One participant, Deny Haryana, said he was pleased despite spending up to IDR 2 million (USD 130) to decorate his boat as a giant lobster.
“What matters is having fun and being able to take part in making this event more festive,” said Deny.
Besides the scenic waters of the Kedung Ombo Reservoir, Bulu Serang Tourism Village also offers floating food stalls and views of local residents carrying out their daily livelihoods.
The organisers hope the annual festival will continue to boost tourist visits, helping stimulate the local economy through Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and tourism services around the reservoir. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
