RRI.CO.ID, Ambon - The Maluku Provincial Administration announced on Thursday, August 20, 2026, that the development of the Maluku Integrated Logistic Hub (MILH) is projected to serve as a primary economic driver to strengthen inter-island connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and spur regional growth.
Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa said that MILH is designed as an integrated industrial and logistics zone with a seaport as its core infrastructure, rather than a standalone port facility. Supported by the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and infrastructure financing commitments from the World Bank, feasibility studies and preparatory research are underway to prepare for groundbreaking in 2027.
Operating alongside the Masela Gas Block, the hub is expected to create 5,000 to 6,000 new jobs, increase supply chain efficiency, and boost the competitiveness of Maluku's primary commodities across industrial, trade, and service sectors.
Provincial leadership and development planners emphasized that establishing integrated logistics hubs in archipelagic regions is critical for economic transformation and long-term industrial sustainability. Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa detailed the strategic vision behind the project.
"This is not merely a port, but the surrounding economic zone will also develop, for the Maluku Provincial Administration, the Maluku Integrated Logistic Hub serves as a prime economic mover, much like the Masela Block," Hendrik said in Ambon on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that the project will address structural logistics challenges inherent to archipelagic geography. "With these two major projects realized in Maluku, it is hoped that Maluku's transformation toward a more advanced and prosperous region can be achieved," Hendrik added. ***
