RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amid power outages and congested roads, around 2,000 residents in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) were forced to evacuate following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck on Saturday, 15 August 2026. As of Saturday noon, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the disaster’s impact continues to spread, with 14 fatalities, over a dozen injured victims, and significant damage to dozens of homes and five health facilities.
“Based on updated data as of 12.30 p.m. Jakarta time, 14 people are recorded dead, two seriously injured, and 11 with minor injuries. This data is still in the process of collection, verification, and validation in the field,” said Acting Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Berton SP Panjaitan, in Jakarta on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

Provisional reports place the deaths in Sikka Regency (three people), Manggarai Regency (six people), and East Manggarai Regency (five people).
Injuries were reported in Sikka, Nagekeo, Manggarai, and East Manggarai Regencies. Beyond fatalities, around five households were affected and approximately 2,000 residents carried out self-evacuations or independent displacement.
“Most residents evacuated following the strong shaking and the early tsunami warning that was issued after the main quake,” said Berton, as quoted by Antara.
In terms of damage, 54 homes were recorded as heavily damaged, nine moderately damaged, and 11 lightly damaged. Damage also occurred to five health facilities, one education facility, one National Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouse, three places of worship, and six administration offices.
Manggarai Regency emerged as one of the areas with significant damage. Records show 29 homes heavily damaged, nine moderately damaged, and nine lightly damaged. In addition, five health facilities and one education facility sustained damage. In East Manggarai Regency, 23 homes were recorded as heavily damaged.
In Nagekeo Regency, provisional impacts include two homes heavily damaged, one moderately damaged, and two lightly damaged. In addition, two places of worship suffered minor damage, and five administration offices were affected. Current conditions in the area report traffic congestion and ongoing power outages. ***
