Lampung Boosts Cocoa Downstreaming to Support Sustainable Growth

RRI.CO.ID, Bandarlampung - Lampung Province has officially embarked on a major shift, moving its focus from merely exporting raw cocoa beans to strengthening the value-added chocolate processing industry. Through the development of 11,000 hectares of plantation land in 2026, the Lampung Provincial Administration is targeting a surge in production to sustainably support the region’s commodity downstreaming agenda.
“Currently, the administration is focusing on downstreaming commodities, and one of them is cocoa because Lampung Province is an area with considerable cocoa potential,” said Head of the Lampung Provincial Plantation Agency, Desti Arisandi, in Bandarlampung on Thursday, August 14, 2026.
He said that, to maximize production in support of cocoa downstreaming, Lampung Province has received a cocoa commodity development program. “The cocoa development program totals 11,000 hectares, spread across several regencies,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
He explained that the 11,000-hectare cocoa development program consists of cocoa rejuvenation activities and expansion of cocoa planting areas. For the cocoa expansion activity, there are 1,500 hectares in Mesuji Regency and 1,000 hectares in West Tulang Bawang Regency.
He added that the cocoa rejuvenation activities are taking place in several regencies, including Pesawaran, Pringsewu, Tanggamus, West Lampung, and West Tulang Bawang. “Through this cocoa development program, we hope production will increase and the downstream processing of Lampung’s cocoa commodities can proceed smoothly,” he added.
Lampung Province has received plantation seedling assistance for cocoa commodities from the Ministry of Agriculture covering 7,450 hectares per unit per group. This aid program carries a total value of IDR 9.88 billion (USD 553,130).
This allocation includes 6,350 hectares for rejuvenation across South, Central, West, and East Lampung, as well as Tanggamus, Pesawaran, and Pringsewu regencies. Additionally, 1,100 hectares are designated for planting expansion in Central and East Lampung Regencies. ***
