Joint Team Evacuates 173 Passengers of Motor Vessel Burned in Lombok Strait

RRI.CO.ID, Mataram – A joint search and rescue (SAR) team successfully evacuated 173 passengers from the Motor Vessel (MV) Putri Yasmin, which caught fire in the Lombok Strait on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. All passengers but one were confirmed safe, according to the Mataram SAR Office of West Nusa Tenggara.

Lombok Strait is a strait that divides the islands of Bali and Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara. Ferry services are exist to facilitate crossing between the two islands.

"Based on the latest confirmed preliminary data at the SAR Command Post at the time of publication, a total of 173 people have been evacuated," the Mataram SAR Office said in its social media post.

"Of these, 172 people were reported safe, while one person was reported dead," it said.

To optimize search and evacuation efforts, the joint team has deployed various means, including up to two helicopters and six vessels. The office said they came from the Indonesian Navy, local water and air police, Lembar Port Office, and locals, as well as from the office itself.

Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, said the SAR team remains on full alert. He said the team’s main priority is ensuring that all victims receive optimal medical treatment and evacuation.

“The Joint SAR Team continues to search the area around the incident site to anticipate the possibility of other victims who may not yet have been evacuated," Hariyadi said in the post.

"We are also coordinating intensively with all relevant parties to accelerate this emergency response,” he said.
