Mimika Immigration Deports PNG National for Illegal Entry

RRI.CO.ID, Timika - The Class II TPI Mimika Immigration Office has initiated deportation proceedings against a Papua New Guinea (PNG) national, identified as BAN (alias RA), for entering Central Papua without valid travel or immigration documents.

Immigration officers acted on a public tip-off received on June 23, 2026, regarding an undocumented foreigner residing near Jalan Cenderawasih SP2 in Mimika. Following field surveillance, the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement (Inteldakim) team intercepted RA on July 16, 2026.

Investigations revealed that RA had crossed into Indonesia illegally via an unofficial land route along the Jayapura border two months prior. Leveraging his former student ID card from a university in Indonesia, RA obtained a domestic flight ticket from Jayapura to Timika.

RA was detained in the Mimika Immigration Detention Room for violating Article 8(1) in conjunction with Article 119(1) of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration for lacking valid entry visas and travel credentials. Following formal coordination with the PNG Consulate General and the Class I TPI Jayapura Immigration Office, authorities finalized administrative deportation procedures to escort RA back across the PNG border.

Immigration leadership affirmed that strict enforcement against illegal entry remains crucial for upholding national border integrity and public security in Papua.

Head of the Class II TPI Mimika Immigration Office Thomas Aries Munandar detailed the investigative steps taken following community reports. He clarified the legal basis and cross-border administrative coordination governing the deportation.

"Because the subject entered Indonesian territory without passing through designated Immigration Checkpoints without valid travel documents, administrative action in the form of deportation is being executed in accordance with Law No. 6/2011, we have coordinated with the PNG Consulate General and Class I TPI Jayapura to complete his removal to his origin country," Thomas added. ***
