BNPB Responds as Fires Burn Eight Hectares in Bangka Belitung

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has coordinated the response to recent forest and land fires. The blazes burned around eight hectares of land across East Belitung and West Bangka Regencies in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
BNPB Head of the Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Abdul Muhari, said the wildfires broke out simultaneously in the two areas on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
“The land fire, covering approximately three hectares, was first reported in Air Kelik Village, Damar Subdistrict, East Belitung Regency, on Sunday afternoon,” said Abdul on Monday, August 3, 2026.
He explained that the fire in East Belitung caused no fatalities. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.
After receiving the report, the East Belitung Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Rapid Response Team immediately rushed to the scene. Four personnel were deployed alongside four portable pump units to extinguish the fire.
Fire suppression was carried out jointly with the PT STWP fire team, the East Belitung Fire Department, and local residents until the blaze was extinguished later that same day.
The joint team also carried out cooling operations to prevent new fire hotspots from emerging. On the same day, forest and land fires also occurred in Sungai Daeng Subdistrict, Muntok Subdistrict, West Bangka Regency.
The fire burned about five hectares before it was extinguished by personnel from the West Bangka BPBD rapid response team, firefighters, and residents.
BNPB praised the swift response of the joint teams in both areas, which were considered successful in containing the fires and preventing them from spreading to residential areas or community plantation land.
“The joint team carried out cooling operations and ensured the area was secure from the potential reappearance of hotspots,” he said. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
