Klaten Lurik Night Carnival 2026 Promotes Local Handwoven Fabric

RRI.CO.ID, Klaten - Klaten Regency held the 2026 Klaten Lurik Night Carnival at Klaten Square in Klaten, Central Java on Monday, July 28, 2026. The event featured stage design and lighting and was witnessed by thousands of residents.
Head of the Klaten Regency Culture, Youth, Sports and Tourism Agency, Purwanto, said the Klaten Lurik Night Carnival was held in commemoration of Klaten’s 222nd anniversary. The annual event aims to raise the profile of Klaten’s signature lurik, traditional handwoven fabric from Java, not only nationally but also internationally.

"We organize the Klaten Lurik Carnival every year as part of Klaten’s official agenda. The purpose is to promote Klaten’s flagship potential, which is lurik, at the national and international levels," said Purwanto on Monday, 27 July 2026.
The event featured 20 groups from state-owned enterprises (BUMN), regional enterprises (BUMD), village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and the private sector. Each group presented creative performances staged on the main platform at Klaten Square. The show was attended by Klaten Regent, Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo; regional administration officials; and invited guests.
One participant, BUMDes Sidowayah from Polanharjo Subdistrict, Klaten, also took part in enlivening the annual event. Around 60 people from the village participated, including dancers and support personnel.
Director of BUMDes Sidowayah, Hartoyo, said that the carnival was a valuable opportunity to showcase Sidowayah Village’s potential, including tourism, the traditional play village (kampung dolanan), and lurik.
"This is our tribute to Klaten on its 222nd anniversary. Sidowayah village tourism has attractions and lurik that we present through the creativity of our village youth," he said.
The event had two main gathering points, such as Klaten Square and in front of the Klaten Military District Command (Kodim) on Jalan Pemuda. Participants performed at both locations, and performances were evaluated by judges. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
