RRI.CO.Id, PAlembang - Indonesia's Vice President (VP) Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The Vice Presidential Secretariat said the visit was part of the government's commitment under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership to strengthen the national health system.

He inspected several healthcare facilities, including the cathlab (catheterization laboratory) facility, to ensure the public has access to quality, equitable, and affordable healthcare services. During the inspection, Gibran also greeted several patients awaiting treatment and listened to a presentation by the hospital's president director, Syamsuddin Issac Suryamanggala, on its landmark services and development, which has become a referral center in South Sumatra province.

"Earlier, we reported to the Governor (Herman Deru, Governor of South Sumatra) that two of our flagship facilities were involved, (the first was) cardiovascular services. The second was orthopedic services," Syamsuddin explained, as quoted by the secretariat website.

In addition to outlining superior services, Syamsuddin also outlined several challenges still facing hospitals, particularly regarding the need for supporting medical equipment. According to him, Gibran responded positively to the presentation and conveyed the government's commitment to continuing to support improvements in the quality of healthcare services for the public.

"The Vice President has been supportive and will provide full assistance," he added.

Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital was inaugurated in 2018 and has been a type-A hospital since 2025. With 199 medical personnel, 524 nursing and midwifery personnel, and 23 specialist clinics, it is one of the main referral health centers in South Sumatra and the surroundings.

Through this review, the secretariat said Gibran assured the government's continued commitment to strengthening regional healthcare services by improving facilities, infrastructure, and service quality. These measures are expected to expand public access to quality, equitable, and affordable healthcare further.
